Overall Review: The price is a tad steep, but it appears to be a well-built gadget and the software is really a plus. It takes a little work, but it does work quite well. For those not wanting to use the software, there is a way to get VLC to play Blu-Ray, I've been successful on two computers. The Cyberlink PowerDVD works well without issue. So far, I am very pleased with the software suite that came with it despite being dated. I'm sure it's some form of composite, but it does not look cheap at all IMHO, but rather elegant. Someone reported that the main body of it is cheap plastic.

I used it with a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.1) without having to install anything (IIRC). So far, it's read everything I've put into it, and burned DVDs without a hiccup (though, problems with recording DVDs are usually due to low-quality blank media, not hardware).
